Symptoms of Depressive Type Schizoaffective Disorder

Proper diagnosis of Schizoaffective Disorder relies on a careful assessment of the individual’s symptoms. It is understood that schizoaffective disorder looks similar to schizophrenia, but it also includes mood disorder symptoms that need to be evaluated in order to determine if a person has manic episodes, depressive episodes, or a combination of both. A person who has experienced manic episodes or a combination of both depressive and manic symptoms along with psychosis will often be diagnosed as having Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar type. Depressive type schizoaffective disorder is characterized by symptoms of psychosis and depression but without the episodes of mania.
